Many people are
still under the misconception that only a solicitor can undertake
conveyancing when purchasing or selling real estate. This is no longer the
case.
Conveyancing firms now provide a legitimate alternative to solicitors and
conveyancing kits.
The
Victorian Conveyancers' Association Inc. (VCA) was formed in the late
1980's and became an incorporated body early in 1991 and represent a
number of Conveyancing Companies that meet the criteria standards as set
by the Association.
The
purpose of the Association was to establish a Code of conduct for members
and ensure that members hold professional indemnity insurance for the
protection of the public. It also aims to generally promote a professional
unification of conveyancers in Victoria and set educational and working
standards, which would give government recognition of their members.
Its
members uphold a high standard of conveyancing acumen, with members having
many years of expertise in Conveyancing with a minimum of 10 years full
membership.
In
addition, each Member operates in accordance with the Legal Professional
Practice Act by employing a Solicitor to attend to all the legal
requirements of any conveyancing transaction.
Members do not hold trust accounts or touch clients' funds for their own
purposes and a member must not have been disbarred from any professional
body for misconduct.
Through their efficiency and expertise, each member is able to offer the
public an alternative to solicitor conveyancing with all the same
safeguards but at a mere fraction of the price.
The
Association is happy to act as a referral service to the public for its
members and give every assistance to the public in placing them with
on of their members. Although the Association does not become involved in
the day to day running of the member's business they believe that all
members are happy to provide their own clients a written quote on fees to
be charged during their engagement. The association believes all members
work on a "fixed quote" system and no fees are charged on an itemised
basis which would end up costing clients an "undefined amount" on
completion of their engagement.
The
Association's members would be pleased to assist in their conveyancing
needs and should the Association need to be contacted telephone 03 9887
